On Saturday November 18th the Chapter’s Thanksgiving Social Action Project was conducted in conjunction with the Timothy Baptist Church Outreach Program. The program provided free Thanksgiving meals, health screenings, manicures, showers, and clothing to people in need. In addition, the ZBB Social Action Committee provided gifts bags including book bags, coffee thermos, gift certificates, and other personal items valued at over $350.00 to participants.
Mr. Josiah Meadows, classical violinist, qualified for the 2018 Seventh District Talent Hunt with a 2nd place finish at the Georgia State Talent Hunt in Albany, GA.
Hurricane Irma struck the Caribbean including the U. S. Virgin Islands in the Fall of 2017. Extensive damage was caused to the area, including the Schneider Regional Medical Center in St. Thomas. Photos of some of the hurricane damage are below.
Zeta Beta Beta Brother Bernard Wheatley serves as the CEO of the Schneider Regional Hospital located in St. Thomas, VI. He faced the task of continuing to care for patients and rebuilding the facility after the storm.
Zeta Beta Beta contributed $1,000 to the efforts to rebuild the Schneider Hospital.
On 16 December 2017, the Brothers of Zeta Beta Beta participated the Chapter’s fourth Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful clean-up for 2017 in the area of MLK and Willow Streets in Athens Georgia. The clean-up is part of the Athens-Clarke County Adopt-a-Highway Program designed to reduce roadside litter. Brothers Kashiwa Brawner, Tracey Boles, Jeff Clark, Marki Dixon, Peter Evans, Wayne Hartley, Arthur Hinton, Jr., and Kevin Payne collected a total of 7 bags of trash and 1 bag of recycled materials.
The 2017 Achievement Week Program for the Zeta Beta Beta Chapter was held on November 19 at Greater Bethel AME church in Athens. Basileus, Arthur Hinton, Jr. officiated, and Bro. Maurice Daniels delivered the message during the church service. Bro. Daniels’ message was aligned with the 2017-2018 Fraternity’s Achievement Week Theme: “When the World Calls, Omega Men Answer”. His message was centered around Bro. Carter G. Woodson. Bro. Daniels discussed how Bro. Woodson impacted the Black community during the early 1900’s and how his teachings and philosophy is even more relevant to our community today. Several awards were given.
